The Ministry of Equality, in alliance with the ILO and the Mayor’s Office of Quibdó, inaugurated a space where midwives are recognized as cultural heritage and essential part of the health system.
News Colombia.
The Ministry of Equality and Equity, in alliance with the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the Mayor’s Office of Quibdó, delivered the first midwife house in Colombia, a space that recognizes the ancestral wisdom of midwives as a fundamental part of the health system.
“The home of Partería was born in response to a historical debt with the communities of the Colombian Pacific, where midwives have sustained life for generations, especially in institutional absence contexts,” they said from the Ministry.
From the Government they pointed out that this new space not only provides recognition, but also adequate conditions and articulation with the health system, guaranteeing safe, respectful and cultural relevance.
The project is part of the public care policy and territorial equity promoted by the Government, with the aim of reducing maternal and child mortality in historically forgotten territories.
“We commit ourselves to continue valuing and recognizing the knowledge of the midwives and to support their initiatives as part of the strengthening of community care,” said Minister Juan Carlos Florián Silva at the inauguration.

La Casa de Parítía opens a national network in Colombia
According to the Government, the figures show that in Chocó maternal mortality has been above the national average. With the Parisian house they seek to close those gaps offering qualified and humanized accompaniment to women during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum.
In addition, the project has a pedagogical approach: it is expected that both the community and the institutions recognize the value of the gratefully as a complementary and essential practice for life.

The Ministry of Equality announced that this will be just the first step of a national network of gutter houses, which will open in different regions of the country with the presence of Afro -Colombian, indigenous and peasant communities.
With this initiative, the State seeks to settle a historical debt with women who, from their ancestral knowledge, have been guardians of life and dignity in territories where institutionality has been absent.
