The Mexican Army and the Government of Mexico City exalted yesterday the historic defense of the Castle of Chapultepec in 1847 during the US invasion, in a ceremony in which I know that the restoration of monuments alluding to the children heroes in the first section of the forest.
In the act, headed by the Secretary of National Defense, Ricardo Trevilla Trejo, General José Ángel García Elizalde, of the National Association of the Heroic Military College, stressed the importance of conserving the places “that keep precisely the essence of the history that links the past with our present. The cadets gave the last breath fighting the invading forces for defending this castle and the honor of our homeland”.
The intervention covered three emblematic points: the obelisk to the children heroes, the roundabout and the historic Ahuehuete The sergeant. Six portraits of the cadets were also made by Mexican painter Abraham Galicia Guerrero, who stressed that the requirement was faithfully reproducing the original easels so as not to alter the images.
“This type of stories must be claimed right now, we are finding: the relationship with the United States, the threat of an invasion … symbolically as a people we must exalt stories of honor and pride,” he said.
The works were made by 12 officers and 148 troops. In the Obelisk, built in 1881 by Ramón Rodríguez Arangoiti – he cadet and combatant in 1847 -, the marble floor was renewed, maintained maintenance to the perimeter quarry, the metal fence, the access door and the monument itself.
In La Rotonda, erected in 1970, the six original 50 -centimeter bases were replaced by new two meters in reinforced concrete lined with quarry on which the paintings of the heroes children were placed. For security, a Chapultepec and lighting type perimeter fence was installed on each pedestal to enhance its night presentation. The original bollards and chains were preserved and received.
In the case of The sergeant, Located in the Glorieta of the Monumental Tribune, the asphalt concrete was replaced by cobblestone delimited with armed concrete garrisons, which improves its environment and protection.
