A total of 11 people, mostly public officials and former officials of the regional government of Madre de Dios, were arrested on the morning of last Tuesday, in the midst of a surprise operation carried out in the cities of Puerto Maldonado, Maynas and Lima.
Through the operation called ‘Cleptocracy 2025’, the Police confirmed the arrest of the alleged members of the band ‘Los Elegantos de Puerto’, who, by judicial mandate were apprehended by a seven -day primal period.
Likewise, the Police reported about the search and described to 17 homes located in different parts of the Madre de Dios, Lima and Loreto regions, in order to seize goods and species for the corresponding investigations.
The charges that are charged to the detainees range from aggravated collusion, money laundering, criminal organization, among others, being accused of diverting more than four million soles received by the regional government of Madre de Dios in the year 2022 for a Forestry Project.
According to the Police, in October of that year, the investigated diverted funds simulating the acquisition of fictitious services to avoid the bidding processes, so, the amounts of the acquisitions to less than nine UIT would have had fractional so that an inspection of purchases is not necessary.
The case is in the hands of the Prosecutor’s Office specialized in corruption crimes of Mother of God officials, investigations continue.
