Puerto Plata.- With several activities of high patriotic fervor, the Puerto Padreños commemorated on Monday, September 8, the 186th anniversary of the birth of General Gregorio Luperón, on a declared day of non -working municipal joy in this Atlantic city.
From the early hours of the morning the acts began in honor of Luperón who was an outstanding military who in 1865 led the liberal nationalist troops in the Restoration War, which returned sovereignty to the Dominican Republic after the dire annexation to Spain.
At the foot of the equestrian statue of the Puerto Rican hero located on the lace of the local Malecon, the crew of the tricolor flag and the interpretation of the national anthem was carried out continuing with the religious invocation by the bishop of Puerto Plata, Monsignor Julio César Corniel Amaro.
The “Agenda” issued by the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre, was read by the second technical lieutenant in Aviation, Gil Cueto Sánchez and then we took the surrender of military honors of style to General Gregorio Luperón.
A save of 15 gunshot to the ocean was executed by a battery of four bounces of light artillery of 105/26 millimeters, coming from the brigade service support of the Army of the Dominican Republic (ERD), located in Villa Mella, Santo Domingo Norte.

In that same order, the president of the Permanent Commission of Ephemeris Homelands (CPEP), Juan Pablo Uribe and Colonel Historian Socrates Suazo Ruiz, who described Luperón as a brave and visionary hero whose legacy must be emulated.
To culminate with a flourish the honors to General Gregorio Luperón a colorful civic-estudiantil parade was held that toured a part of the boardwalk, then taking José Ramón López, July 12 and José del Carmen Ariza, until concluding in the Plaza Independencia (Central Park).
It is weighted that these activities were coordinated by the Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Education, Permanent Commission of Ephemerrids Patrias (CPEP), Provincial Government of Puerto Plata, municipal mayor of San Felipe de Puerto Plata and the Gregorio Luperón General Museum House.
