The Minister of Finance, jochi vincent, held a meeting with the representative of the IDB Group in the Dominican Republic, Katharina Falkner-Olmedo, to coordinate the joint work agenda based on the IDB Group’s strategy with the country until 2024, recently approved by the board of that organization.
In line with the IDB’s Vision 2025, the scope of this plan prioritizes the promotion of exports, investment in infrastructure, the business fabric with a focus on SMEs and women, stimulates professional technical education, the generation of quality jobs and the strengthening of the health system.
It also supports the ecological transition towards a cleaner economy with an emphasis on water and sanitation, tourism diversification, protection of coastal resources, improvement of transportation and expansion and modernization of the electrical system.
Minister Vicente pointed out that the focus of action contemplated in the new IDB Group strategy with the Dominican Republic is in line with the Government’s priorities to provide solutions to the challenges posed until 2024.
“The IDB Group’s strategy aims to contribute to recovering a level of robust economic growth compatible with the inclusive, resilient and sustainable development of the country,” said Vicente.
He stressed that the IDB is one of the main multilateral organizations in the country that provides technical assistance and knowledge to public and private entities for the benefit of the nation’s development and provides financing under favorable conditions in terms of terms and costs.
The Minister of Finance added that the support of the institution after the impact of COVID-19 is relevant for the Dominican Republic, since with this strategy it is proposed to focus on the productive sector and the management of the effects of climate change, vital areas for the economic development of the country.
With the implementation of the strategy, aspects related to gender and diversity, adaptation to climate change, digitization, institutional capacity and the rule of law will be addressed in a cross-cutting manner, with an emphasis on transparency.
