Santo Domingo.- The Environmental Commission of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) said It is “technical and legally inadmissible” the proposal of Senator Julito Fulcar de “delimit” the boundaries of the natural monument of the boilers in Baní, Pravia province, to settle families.
The scientist Luis Carvajal, coordinator of that agency, considered the proposal of the legislator of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRM).
The UASD executive expressed are a protected area and warned about the environmental danger of altering and reducing them.
He considered that if that natural resource is mutilated “it would open the door to the reduction of a protected area and the retroactive legalization of illegal occupations.”
He considered that this would be a devastating precedent for the National System of Protected Areas (SINAP)
“The boiler dunes are natural, scientific, cultural and climate security heritage for the Dominican Republic,” he said in a press release.
Ask to defend them
“The dunes are a natural barrier in front of storms and erosion, an area for the scientific study of peculiar processes and species, critical habitat and keywater recharge zone; the terrigenic sand is finite on a human scale.
He asked the academies, the churches, the unions of professionals and workers, the cooperatives and other levels of society to defend that natural resource.
“We call to integrate community surveillance brigades and denunciation networks,” he said.
“The UASD Environmental Commission ratifies its willingness to provide technical rigor, citizen monitoring and legal action where appropriate,” he said.
Reminder
He recalled that Law 202-04, on protected areas, establish limits, management category and rules of use and management of natural resources.
He insisted that protected areas cannot be reduced or mutilated.
