President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo reported yesterday at her conference at the National Palace that the visit to Mexico of the president of France, Emmanuel Macron, was originally scheduled for September. Meanwhile, he confirmed that the visit of the Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, scheduled for the end of this month, is still standing.
He explained that Macron’s visit was canceled by him because he “has problems” in his country.
He added that in the case of France, bilateral dialogues are not limited only to economic issues, but cover cultural and historical memory, such as the recovery of codices that are part of the heritage of native peoples.
On this point, José Alfonso Suárez del Real, political advisor of the General Coordination of Social Communication and Vocería de la Presidencia, stressed that on Thursday the deputy Eric Coquerel, of the French National Assembly, to work on the Mexican request of the Bourbon Codex – currently protected in the library of that Chamber of the Gallic Parliament – and another document.
On the repatriation of the codex, which he defined as a current and essential knowledge for ritual processes that will take place in 2027, he pointed out: “We could have reproductions, etc., but they lack the spirit embodied in the codex. It is required for the binding of years that will be carried out in 2027, and the Nahua peoples have considered that it is important to recover (what) in this process.”
He added that another codex of great importance for CDMX is in restitution requests.
