With more than 62 years of experience in journalistic coverage and 40 correspondents in all continents, the renewal allows Prensa Latina to offer better services in all its sections and supports from now on.
The new portal, which can be accessed from both mobile phones and computers, will allow its contents to reach more easily those interested in verifying the founding premise of always being at the service of the truth, said Norge López, engineer from the Technical Development department from Prensa Latina.
The platform was made flexible to the maximum, especially in its design, to ensure a better positioning, in competition with other international media, he said, adding that “it is necessary to reach people with the tools of today.”
The specialist highlighted important changes in the graphic and audiovisual content of the portal, since -he argued- it includes podcasts in its radio service and a greater enhancement to the products of Prensa Latina Televisión, as well as innovative spaces such as “Photos for the news”, among others .
Prensa Latina, the main native agency in the region, emerged in June 1959 to defend the nascent Cuban Revolution and give the Latin American peoples their own voice against the international journalistic monopoly.
For more than six decades, several generations of Cuban and Latin American journalists followed the postulates of their founders gathered in the so-called Operation Truth, during which the historical leader Fidel Castro insisted that the region’s media should possess the truth and not be victims Of the lie.
The founder and first director, Jorge Ricardo Masetti, stressed from day one the need for the editors of Prensa Latina to exercise “objective, but not impartial” journalism, because – he insisted – one cannot be impartial between good and evil .
Despite financial and material limitations, the agency is transformed into a modern multimedia center, which broadcasts almost 400 daily dispatches in six languages, publishes about twenty specialized magazines, provides radio and television services, and has growing participation in digital networks.
The portal www.prensa-latina.cu is the journalistic site with the highest traffic in Cuba and the best located in the country in the world ranking on the Internet, according to international gauges.
