The State Government inaugurated this Friday (5), the regional blood center of Santo Antônio de Padua, in Northwest Fluminense, the first of the public network in the region. The Blood Center of Santo Antônio de Padua is another step in the state policy of decentralization of health services, and will be administered by the Arthur de Siqueira Cavalcanti Institute of Hematology, Hemorio. The expectation is to receive 600 donors per month, serving 13 municipalities from next Monday (11).
In addition to Santo Antônio de Padua, the new unit will serve the municipalities of Aperibé, Bom Jesus de Itabapoana, Cambuci, Italva, Itaocara, Itaperuna, Muriaé, Miracema, Nativity, Porciúncula, Sao Jose do Ubá and Varre-Sai. Previously, the region had no collection point.
“We are fulfilling the objective of bringing people health services closer, expanding and accelerating care. The new Blood Center will save lives, allowing the blood to be collected, processed and distributed regionally, without the need for travel to the capital,” said Secretary of Health, Claudia Mello.
For the director of Hemorio, Luiz Amorim, the new Polo is a strategic step in strengthening the state hemotherapy network.
“This new collection point has an essential role in expanding access to donation and distributing blood components throughout the region. The more decentralized our network, the greater our ability to quickly serve patients they need. Each donation can save up to four lives, and is a completely safe and simple process,” said Amorim.
The teams of the Santo Antônio de Padua Regional Blood Center went through a technical qualification program at Hemorio Centro for three weeks. THE New unit will operate from Monday to Friday, from 7 am to 2 pm, and is located at Avenida João Jasbick, s/n, Airport neighborhood, near Hélio Montezano Hospital.
Donation
Anyone who wants to donate must be between 16 and 69 years old, weigh over 50 kg, be in good health and present official photo document. Under 18 years must be accompanied by legal guardian and carry authorization available in the website hemorio.rj.gov.br.
No fasting, just avoiding fatty foods four hours before collection and not drinking alcohol in the previous 12 hours. Pregnant women, lactating and drug users are not able to donate.
