The general commander of the National Police of Peru (PNP), Víctor Zanabria, rejected that a hacking to the database of the Intelligence Directorate (DIRI) has occurred and said that the exposure of information is due to a filtration committed by a police officer.
On the night of September 4, it transpired that the PNP would have been the victim of a cyber attack, which would have committed classified files linked to counterintelligence plans, follow -up to journalists and security strategies for senior officials. However, Zanabria denied that version and attributed the situation to a misuse of internal accesses.
“There has not been an access through hacker, the information is access to users, which is a filtration, which is a bad habit that we have throughout the state apparatus, because you all publish the information that bad police make you arrive improperly.”said the police chief.
The General Commander explained that the released documents correspond to administrative procedures of the institution, such as delivery records for operations or requests for payment by operations plans, and not to reserved material. In that line, he stressed that the Ministry of Interior had already clarified that there was no computer violation.
“The Minister of the Interior also reported about this, indicating that there has been no hacking in our system. It is the second time that they make this type of statements, the first was the record of the complaints, which any citizen can access. The legal traffic of consultations has been raised,”he said.
Regarding the person in charge, Zanabria indicated that it would be a “police user” with authorized access, whose identity will be determined through an internal audit.
“The DIRI is doing the detailed audit to determine which police user is the one who has made these consultations where this administrative procedure information appears”accurate.
The High Command added that the General Inspectorate will open the corresponding investigation. If the undue participation of an cash is confirmed, administrative sanctions will be applied that could lead to their retirement pass.
