They launch the month in Melo and the march of the diversity of Cerro Largo
The city of Melo will again be the scene of one of the most significant social and cultural expressions of recent years. This Friday, September 5, at 3:00 p.m., at the Posada La Comandancia hotel, the coordinator of the Melo diversity march will carry out the release press conference of the month of diversity and the march of the diversity of Cerro Largo.
In dialogue with La Prensa, Nazarena Juárez, one of the members of the organizing collective, explained that the call seeks to install a time of reflection, celebration and visibility on the public agenda. “The month of diversity is an opportunity to remember that equality, respect and inclusion are not abstract slogans, but commitments that must be lived every day. And the march is the strongest expression of that idea: a space in which people, regardless of their identity or orientation, walk together to defend rights,” pointed out.
Juarez stressed that this year the initiative is consolidated as a movement of departmental scope, with the support of social groups, artists and institutional references. “It is not just a parade or a party. It is a message that comes from Cerro Largo to the whole country, showing that inside there are also voices that demand equality and that build spaces where diversity is lived with pride ”, He pointed out.
The press conference will allow the calendar of activities that will be deployed during September, with talks, workshops, cultural interventions and community meetings that will have as its axis the inclusion and respect for human rights. Juarez said that the march of diversity will travel again Melo’s downtown streets with a strong symbolic character. “Every step we take in the march is a way of saying that we do not want to setbacks, that we are willing to continue conquering spaces of equality. This year we expect more people to join, because diversity is not a matter of minorities, but of the whole society,” express.
The member of the organization also highlighted the importance of having the presence of the media. “Its coverage helps us to get further, to more people understand that diversity is a wealth and not a reason for discrimination. We want young people, families and the community in general to feel part of this collective construction ”, affirmed.
The launch of this Friday will mark the beginning of a month loaded with activities that will culminate with the march, consolidating itself as a milestone in the social and cultural life of Cerro Largo. “The objective is that no one is outside, that each person can feel recognized and respected in their uniqueness. That is the essence of what we celebrate and defend,” Juárez concluded.
With this announcement, Melo prepares to live one more edition of the march of diversity, reaffirming its commitment to inclusion and respect for human rights, in an event that is already part of the social and cultural calendar of the department.
