The Superior Court of Justice (STJ) sworn in this Thursday (4) ministers Carlos Pires Brandão and Marluce Caldas. Both were nominated by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
Marluce Caldas was a member of the Alagoas Public Prosecution Service (MPAL) since 1986 and entered the vacancy opened by the retirement of Minister Laurita Vaz, who left the court in October 2023.
Before arriving at the STJ, Minister Carlos Pires Brandão worked as judge of the Federal Regional Court of the 1st Region (TRF1), headquartered in Brasilia. He is also a law professor at the Federal University of Piauí (UFPI). Brandão will occupy the chair of former Minister Magalhães, who retired in January 2024.
The new court ministers were chosen by the President of the Republic on a list of STJ full on October 15 last year. Before the inauguration, Carlos Brandão and Marclce Caldas had their names approved by the Senate Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ) and the House Plenary.
