A tragic domestic accident linked to Yarima’s corregimiento, in San Vicente de Chucurí (Santander), where a child of only 4 years lost his life after a sink came off and fell on him. The unfortunate event occurred on Wednesday night September 3, while the child was under the care of his older brother, 16, because his parents attended a religious meeting in the church of the sector.

According to witnesses, the child approached the bathroom and the sink came off and hit him violently in the neck. The impact was so strong that it caused a serious injury that committed its life in minutes. Immediately, his family tried to transfer him to the nearest health center, located in the El Centro district, but unfortunately the child arrived without vital signs.
This painful event has generated consternation throughout the community of Yarima, where local neighbors and leaders have solidarity with the child’s family. In addition, the tragedy has put on the table an urgent structural problem: the lack of timely medical attention and basic resources to face emergencies in the rural areas of the municipality.
The authorities have already initiated an investigation to clarify the facts and determine if there were failures in the installation of the sink or negligence in the housing infrastructure. For now, the main hypothesis points to a fortuitous domestic accident, although the possibility of issuing preventive recommendations to prevent similar cases to be repeated.
The situation has also lit an alert about the need to improve health coverage in remote regions such as Yarima. Inhabitants of the district have denounced the absence of ambulances, the shortage of medical personnel and considerable distance to health centers, factors that in emergencies such as this can make the difference between life and death.
Meanwhile, the child’s family is receiving psychological support and accompaniment from community organizations. The child’s body was delivered to his parents after the technical inspection, and his funeral is expected to take place in the next few hours, amid the pain of a community that still cannot assimilate the loss of one of his smallest inhabitants.
