The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, asked on Thursday to Japan’s Prime Minister, Shigeru Ishiba, who expedites the adoption of a bilateral commercial agreement that allows “massive” exports between the two countries.

At the start of a summit with the Japanese president in the Kantei, the headquarters of the Central Government of the Asian Country in Tokyo, PEtro described the signing of an Economic Association Agreement (EPA) with Japan as a “fundamental need” that must be solved.
Petro highlighted the importance of “Finish the Trade Agreement, EPA, that allows Colombian products to reach Japan massively and that today Japanese machines can massively reach Colombia”.

The summit between Petro and Ishhiba took place after the Colombian president met in the Japanese capital with representatives of the main Japanese employer, Kendairen.
} During that meeting, Petro and other members of the delegation who have traveled with him to Japan, including Chancellor Yolanda Villavicencio Mapy, dialogue with the Japanese business dome on how to boost new investment opportunities and export diversification, among other points.
The Colombian authorities highlighted the importance of Colombia’s participation in the Osaka Expo, “A propitious place for the development of high -level meetings with investors and business delegations, which seeks to reach agreements that promote both foreign trade and tourism towards our country”highlighted the Ministry of Bogotá in a statement.
The Colombian delegation headed by Petro will travel soon to the city of the Japanese west where the event is being held, where the national pavilion, that of Japan, that of Saudi Arabia and that of China, among other spaces of the enclosure are being held on Saturday.
