#8M Daniela Vega, the woman behind the data analysis at Xepelin

“Since I was in college, I was passionate about the financial part, but I realized from my first job in a pension fund that the financial world was supremely unbalanced in the number of women and men there are,” he said in an interview with Expansión .

Daniela says that although at the beginning of her career she felt she had to make more of an effort than her male peers, her passion for the financial world paved the way for her as a consultant and analyst, working for companies with operations in Colombia, Chile and Mexico, until in 2020, joined Xepelin’s team.

When she joined the team, she says, there were 15 people in the company and only two were women. Now, two years later, the company already has 106 women on the workforce.

Daniela commented that since she joined Xepelin, in 2020, improvements have been implemented in the systems that evaluate companies to give them financing and with these improvements, a growth of 30% has been achieved month by month and more than 6,000 companies evaluated in Mexico. and Chile.

The way in which companies are analyzed includes more than 50 variables with which the size and efficiency of SMEs that request financing is reviewed and measured.

“We have managed to almost double the number of companies that operate with us because it has allowed us to reduce the time to evaluate the company. Today, in less than a minute you have a special evaluation,” he said.

Daniela Vega said that she is aware that updating is essential for the business to continue improving, and that the world of data science is constantly changing.

But the update does not only come from the academy. Networking with women and men inside the company and outside also helps.

“Most of the people in the world of data are men and I am trying to change within my own team, it may not be today but in 10 years this networking that they see that they can do it

What is Daniela Vega’s advice for female students? She assures that the first step is to believe it. “Ask yourselves if you’re really seeing all the opportunities there could be, knowing that there is a traditionally macho world where we fit in and we could be very successful.”
