Expanded offer

After 35 years, Melo recovers the social communicator career

The capital of Cerro Largo will once again have a long -awaited race. From 2026, the Higher Technical School of Melo will open two new tertiary level proposals: the technical in social communication and a CTT in gastronomy. The news was confirmed at a press conference by the director of the center, Professor David Amaral, and the Deputy Director, Professor Virginia Huguet, who highlighted the value of this expansion of UTU’s educational offer for the region.

The return of social communication to Melo has a historical weight. In 1990, a similar technique had been issued, but the project did not prosper for the lack of specialized teachers and the low interest of students. Three decades later, conditions seem different. Today there is a social demand for new generations of communicators, while in Cerro Largo reside technicians and graduates who can assume teaching.

“Two novelties in the educational offer”

When opening the conference, Amaral said: “Very good morning, thanks for being today and being able to disseminate what is going to be the educational offer that we have planned for the year 2026, with two novelties in the Tertiary Technical Courses of UTU: a technical in social communication and the other in a CTT in gastronomy ”.

The director explained that both races are in the pre -registration stage and detailed what the process will be like: “In both proposals, the interested parties, there is a web form in our networks and then specify that registration in paper format here in the school. It is a previous registration so that the course can leave. Yes, this is a pre -registration. Hence we have to continue working the proposal, because apart from having the students, we have to gather other conditions, such as infrastructure, equipment, places, that is, the right place so that this technical success”.

Minimum, quotas and teachers

Amaral also referred to the requirements regarding the number of students: “We work with a minimum of 16, but from there to more, if the limit of the 35 is passed, as provided by the regulation, we make a raffle,” explained.

One of the critical points that in 1990 had prevented the continuity of the career was the lack of teachers trained in the area. The director recognized that difficulty, but stressed that current reality is different: “My topic teachers, covered teachers to meet, for example, the Social Communication Technician, which at the time had been one of the inconvenience. Yes, we now, luckily, in the middle, here in Cerro Largo, we have technicians, they are the graduates in communication and we have them in Cerro Largo.”

Income conditions

The deputy director Virginia Huguet was the one who explained precisely what requirements the applicants must meet to study. “The technicatures have to take into account, at the time of registering, that they have to have a baccalaureate approved. Otherwise, they cannot, because to do a tertiary level course, they have to have baccalaureate approved, no matter the orientation. That at other times you did have to have a specific orientation, in these cases not, but to have it complete,” held.

Asked about the possibility of registering with pending matters, he clarified: “There may be some pending matter at the time of registration, but you have to take the exam at the beginning. In April, more or less, it should be more or less covered. ”

A bet to the future

The recovery of the Social Communication career is not an isolated event: it is part of a broader plan of diversification of the educational offer in the Higher Technical School of Melo. Amaral explained that the range of technological and professional baccalaureates is maintained, to which innovations will be added.

“We always have the offer of high school, which are always diverse. Here we have technological and professional technical baccalaureates, which are the specific UTU, which have a more intense professional burden. We also have some innovations this year with which we are betting, according to those interested as well, which is that of tourism and lodging, which is an innovation for us,” The director said.

Along the same lines, he stressed another novelty directly linked to communication: “We also want to incorporate and strengthen the audiovisual part, baccalaureate in audiovisual and media, to also strengthen what it is later the continuity of the technical we propose this year.”

Continuity and new modalities

The educational proposal is not limited to the tertiary level. The Technical School will continue to attend to the different levels of training, including the most basic. Amaral recalled that “As for level 1, we continue with what is EBI, which still is still secondary education; we have the seventh, eighth and ninth; we have the FPB, which is the other different modality, which also has the workshop as a strength, and we have a course for those over 18, who do it at night, what we do, say, as they say, three years in one. It is also so that the educational offer is also reincorporated possible”.

Registration and communication with the interested parties

Those responsible for the school emphasized the importance of the interested parties carrying out the pre -registration and social networks remain attentive, where the definitive dates will be published. Amaral explained: “We have to publish them, they have to follow the networks because we are doing it as we see that they are the registration dates and we still do not publish it because we are waiting for some certainties, such as knowing well what we are going to offer effectively.”

In that sense, he called on those who really have an interest in studying: “That is why it is important that all those who are interested come here to manifest that intention of real interest, which does not happen to us that they are noted, they intend and then you have to go out to see where they are, because we are still waiting for it.”

A long -awaited step

With the announcement of this double proposal, Melo is placed again on the national educational map with an offer that responds to two great demands: on the one hand, the formation of new social communicators, necessary to renew a local medium that today is sustained with generations close to the retirement; And on the other, professionalization in gastronomy, a key sector for the tourism and productive development of the department.

The words of Amaral and Hueguet reflect the institution’s commitment to the future of the youth of Cerro Largo and with the creation of concrete opportunities for their professional development.

After 35 years, social communication has a space in Melo again. And this time, with the certainty that experience, available human resources and institutional will will allow the race to consolidate and project new generations.
