United States cancels the 2021 TPS for almost 300 thousand Venezuelans

DORAL councilors urge to offer permanent status to Venezuelans "of good" with TPS

The Secretary of National Security, Kristi Noem, said that “the conditions in Venezuela no longer meet the legal requirements of the TPS” and said that ending the TPS for Venezuelans “is necessary because it is contrary to the national interest”

The United States National Security Department announced on Wednesday, September 3, the completion of the temporary protection status (TPS) for Venezuela, which benefited some 268,000 migrants in the country in 2021. It will expire on September 10, 2025.

The Secretary of National Security, Kristi Noem, indicated the termination of the designation of 2021 of the Temporary Protection Status (TPS) for Venezuelans. The termination will enter into force 60 days after the publication of the notice in the Federal Registry.

“Given the important role of Venezuela in the impulse of irregular migration and the clear effect of attraction generated by the temporal protection status (TPS), maintain or expand the TPS for Venezuelan citizens directly undermines the efforts of the Trump administration to ensure our southern border and manage migration effectively,” said migration spokesman Matthew Tragesser.

The same official insisted that “it is evident that allowing Venezuelan citizens to remain temporarily in the United States does not benefit the United States.”

Noem added that “the conditions in Venezuela no longer meet the legal requirements of the TPS” and said that ending the TPS for Venezuelans “is necessary because it is contrary to national interest.”

The US recommended that Venezuelans remain in their territory to leave the country and use the CBP Home application to inform the authorities that abandoned the nation and take advantage of the benefits of self -portion that include a “courtesy ticket, exit bonus of $ 1,000 and possible future opportunities for legal immigration”.
