Sheinbaum: No to EU interference in the fight against cartels

President Claudia Sheinbaum said that, in terms of security, the “interpreticism” of the United States will not be allowed, there will be cooperation, but “everyone in her territory”, and ruled out a possible Washington intervention against Mexico against drug cartels.

In the morning of yesterday, the day before the meeting that will hold with the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, the president stressed that this position has become evident before the administration of Donald Trump as part of the negotiations to achieve a bilateral understanding in security.

“What do we do not accept? Injencismo. We do not accept our territory either. We do not accept subordination, but simply a collaboration between nations in equal circumstances. That is what we have put on the table and has been accepted.”

He pointed out that there are characters from the neighboring nation who insist on an intervention by his army in Mexican territory to combat organized crime groups, as recently raised by Republican Senator Ted Cruz.

“We do not agree with that. First, because it is not necessary; second, because it would be an intervention of violation of our sovereignty, and third, because organized crime is much more complex, organized crime, and there must be a permanent work of coordination and collaboration,” he emphasized.

– What type of intervention do you allow? What if the United States acts alone, what to do? – He asked the chief of the Executive.

– United States will not act alone, because there is an understanding. Tomorrow (today) comes the Secretary of State of the United States. And it has been working for months in an understanding to collaborate in security. What do we raise? That this collaboration, this cooperation, has to be everyone in their territory, ”he replied.

He insisted that you can collaborate with information and intelligence exchange related to organized crime groups.

They will seal covenant

Yesterday, the Trump administration official arrived in Mexico for a work visit. Today he will meet with Sheinbaum and members of his cabinet to seal security understanding. Then he will give a joint conference with Chancellor Juan Ramón de la Fuente.

More than an agreement, the president raised, it is an “understanding” of collaboration and cooperation with respect to the sovereignty of each country and its territoriality.

“A framework of collaboration without subordination between equal nations, that is what we have been raising (…) is an understanding between the states, the two nations, how we must cooperate and collaborate. And in that perspective we will continue working together.”

The president said that today’s meeting with Rubio – the first they will hold – will show that there is a relationship of collaboration and respect for sovereigns.
