In a firm message about its sovereignty, Mexico claimed its independence and autonomy against the United States, while both nations agreed to strengthen cooperation in cross -border security, within the framework of the official visit of the Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, to the Mexican capital.
The meeting between Rubio and President Claudia Sheinbaum on Wednesday consolidated a clear understanding: work together against common threats, but strictly respecting the limits and powers of each country, they reported Agencies international as AP and EFE.
What was initially expected was the signing of a broad bilateral security agreement ended as a reaffirmation of the historical commitment of both nations to collaborate in the fight against organized crime, drug trafficking, weapons and fuel, always from their respective territories and sovereignty.
In this sense, a “high -level implementation group” was installed as a mechanism for monitoring and joint execution of defined strategies.
Denying interventionism
The dialogue, the Mexican part was emphatic that the country will maintain its autonomy and will not accept external interventions that affect its integrity.
President Sheinbaum reiterated with energy that the Mexican people will not allow “interventions, interference or any act from abroad that is harmful to the integrity, independence and sovereignty of the nation”, in clear allusion to US positions and actions.
“It is not true that we are afraid to confront the cartels; we are fighting them with clear and forceful strategies,” said the president before the meeting.
For his part, Marco Rubio highlighted the unpublished collaboration that, he said, Mexico currently maintains with the United States regarding organized crime.
“There is no government at this time that it is cooperating with us more in the fight against crime than the Government of Mexico,” admitted the head of US diplomacy.

Shared priorities
The joint work agenda contemplates known but renewed priorities: to stop the entry of fentanyl and other dangerous drugs to the United States, to prevent the weapons acquired in the neighboring country being illegally introduced to Mexico, and efficiently control the undocumented migration, which has experienced a significant reduction in recent months.
Rubio announced that his visit will insist on strengthening mechanisms to share intelligence and operational coordination information, without compromising sovereignty or assuming unilateral actions of any of the governments.
President Claudia Sheinbaum ordered the immediate mobilization of 10 thousand military to reinforce security on the northern border, specifically with the aim of curbing the traffic of fentanyl, other drugs, weapons and irregular migration.
The deployment included a relocation of soldiers from regions with less security problems to strategic points such as Tijuana, Ciudad Juárez, Nuevo Laredo, and Reynosa, among others.
From the beginning of the operation, in February 2025 and until September, almost 400 kilograms of fentanil, thousands of weapons and made thousands of arrests have been secured, showing specific results in the border states.
CRISHED CONTEXT
This bilateral meeting occurs at a time of regional tension and increased pressure from the United States to Latin America, especially after the recent military operation in the Caribbean ordered by President Trump, who ended with the death of 11 alleged Venezuelan drug traffickers of the Aragua train.
Rubio’s visit, in addition to Mexico, includes a stop in Ecuador, in the midst of a Latin American tour aimed at deepening the American agenda against drug trafficking, illegal migration, organized crime and, particularly, the increasingly sustained influence of China in the region.
