The Rio de Janeiro State Secretariat of Penitentiary Administration (Seap) will use cutting-edge technology solution to block mobile, Wi-Fi and Drones signals in hospital prison and prison units of the state penitentiary system. The measure represents a decisive advance in combating clandestine communication that feeds organized crime within prisons.
“With this investment, we reaffirm our commitment to strengthening public security, combining technology and management in facing organized crime, preventing prisoners from maintaining contact with the external world to articulate crimes,” said Governor Claudio Castro.
The hiring was made through public bidding, divided into five regional lots, with the participation of six companies. IMC Tecnologia was the winner of all lots, presenting the best price among the qualified companies.
With the signing of the contract and the publication in the Official Gazette This Tuesday (2), Seap issues the order of service. The company will have up to ten business days to start work, with a period of up to 45 days per unit, or 60 days in case of three simultaneous facilities. The implementation will be gradual, according to the state budget forecast and the operational strategy of the penitentiary administration.
“Contrary to what happens in other states, in Rio de Janeiro the prison complex is in urban area, close to homes whose residents cannot obviously be impacted by signal blockage. We went after the most modern in this type of technology, so that the blockage only happens within prison units,” explained Secretary of Penitentiary Administration, Maria Rosa Nebel.
The solution includes jammers [dispositivo eletrônico que emite sinais de rádio que bloqueia comunicações sem fio] state -of -the -art, capable of blocking all types of frequency. Directional antennas are installed that interconnect at strategic points of the perimeter of the prison unit, forming a controlled interference bell, preventing mobile communication, Wi-Fi and even drones.
