General Elections 2026: More than 10,000 candidates in a 44 centimeter card

General Elections 2026: More than 10,000 candidates in a 44 centimeter card

The National Electoral Processes Office has presented the design of the voting card for the general elections of 2026, which has surprised its own and strangers for the size it is, as well as its complexity.

The announcement was made during an ordinary session where the last details about the electoral process are addressed, which will take place on April 12 of next year.

This card has dimensions of 44×42 centimeters, becoming one of the largest used in the recent history of the country.

“Only one card for the 2026 general elections will be used,” said Piero Corvetto, head of the ONPE, who stressed that the document will allow each voter to cast their vote in five elections in a single day, with the possibility of marking up to four preferential votes.

The large size of the card is a product of the large number of parties and alliances that have registered in these elections, as well as the incorporation of various authorities that citizens must choose during this election day.

Corvetto acknowledged that the conventional vote scrutiny could extend up to eight hours due to the magnitude of the format and the number of options in dispute.

According to the National Jury of Elections, the total number of candidates is 10 257, distributed among representatives to the Andean Parliament (624), deputies (6 162), senators (3 354) and presidential formula (117).

The Chief of the ONPE said that all of Peru will vote using the conventional method, except Lima and Callao, where the technological system of support for scrutiny will be applied, to expedite the processing of results and reduce the margin of error.
