De Moraes said that the conspiracy supposedly led by Bolsonaro intended to “install a state of exception and a true dictatorship,” says the source.
Then, the Brazilian attorney general, Paulo Gonet, said that democracy “assumes her active defense” with this criminal process.
In his first words, he cited “a plot and implemented by means of coordinated acts” that aimed to “abolish the democratic state of law.” The prosecutor admitted that the eight inmates did not participate “in all phases of the coup,” but said that “everyone collaborated at each stage of the process” with the intention of consummating it.
Gonet added that documents were also found on a plan to monitor Lula’s movements, vice president Geraldo Alckmin and Moraes’ own, and even suggested the possibility of killing them.
Bolsonaro does not attend
Bolsonaro decided not to attend the first of the sessions of the final phase of the trial. As confirmed by his family, the leader of the 70 -year -old ultra -right, has health problems and that is why he has not requested the authorization that he would require to leave his home and be present at the sessions, which will last until next week, when he must be issued a sentence.
According to the accusation made by the Prosecutor’s Office, the ultra -rightist encouraged violent protests against electoral justice and launched a conspiracy that aimed to prevent Lula’s investiture in order to preserve power.
This movement included camps of ultras activists in front of the door of numerous army barracks, in which a coup d’etat was open and publicly.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the corollary of these actions was the violent assault on Brasilia of January 8, 2023, a week after the investiture of Lula, when thousands of Bolsononians occupied and predated the headquarters of the Presidency, the Parliament and the Supreme Court itself, in which the trial will be held.
The First Supreme Chamber, in charge of the process, has reserved for the final phase of the trial the sessions of this Tuesday and Wednesday, and will continue the hearings on September 9, 10 and 12.
