Deceleration

The result of 0.4% between immediately followed quarters means slowdown, since in the first quarter, The advance had been 1.3% compared to the fourth quarter of 2024.

IBGE National Accounts Coordinator Rebeca Palis attributed the slowdown to restrictive monetary policy, ie high interest rates, central bank tool (BC) to contain inflation.

High interest rates have the effect of discouraging consumption and investment, cooling the economy and reducing the demand for goods and services, consequently, taking force from inflation.

Next quarter

For the third quarter, SPE projects GDP growth rhythm “little lower” to the second quarter.

“Although the slowdown in credit concessions has been accentuating in recent months, along with the increase in bank interest rates and default, The labor market follows resilientcan boost the activity with the payment of precatory [dívidas judiciais do governo] and to the recent expansion of the payroll loans to the worker, ”writes the analysis.

With the result of Tuesday, SPE states that the initial projection of growth from 2.5% to 2025 has “mild biases due to the most pronounced slowdown in the second quarter compared to the expected in July and also in repercussion on the lagged and cumulative effects of monetary policy on economic activity”.
