The Minister of Health, Víctor Atallah, deposited yesterday a project that seeks to modify the Law 12-06, on mental health and which aims to strengthen services in that area, guarantee rights and expand coverage throughout the country.
“The reform of this Mental Health Law would represent a decisive step to ensure that each person receives dignified, accessible and quality attention,” said Atallah, after delivering the project to Ricardo de los Santos, president of the Upper House.
The minister said that the legislative piece defines five fundamental axes, which are human rights, accessibility and quality in services, prevention and promotion, community approach and greater investment.
Atallah said they work so that people have access to mental health from the first level of care and respond to the needs originated after the pandemic, which increased the requirements for that pathology.

On his side, the president of the Senate assured that the piece will be attached to a commission that will be in charge of his study, analysis and weighting.
