Mino Carta was the greatest Brazilian journalist, says Lula

President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said on Tuesday (2) that, with the Mino Death Letterthis dawn, Brazil lost its best journalist. Lula left the federal capital especially to participate in the funeral of Mino, which took place in São Paulo Cemetery, in the neighborhood of Pinheiros, in the state capital. Mino Carta was the greatest Brazilian journalist, says Lula

“It is important for youth to know, if there is one thing that the Mino Carta is, is that it is undeniably the best Brazilian journalist of the entire 20th century and the early 21st century,” said the president after attending the wake.

“I made sure to come here because it’s the farewell of a great companion. And you know we don’t choose brother. We don’t choose even father, no mother. Now, partner, we choose. And the Mino Carta was a guy chosen to be my companion in the last 50 years,” added the president.

Lula listed press vehicles created by Mino, such as magazines Look and Capital Carta. “See in Brazil if there is anyone who comes close to the Mino Carta from the point of view of creating,” said Lula.

The president remembered Mino’s attitude when he stamped on the cover of the magazine That is In 1978 – the first time Lula was the main headline of a large press vehicle, with the title Lula and Brazil workers.

“It was kind of the Mino Letter to have available, in an important moment of the resumption of the workers’ struggle, to make a cover in the That is That helped me and put me on the Brazilian press scenario, ”he said.

Permanent outrage

Also present at the wake, journalist Juca Kfouri recalled the striking features of Mino, such as permanent outrage and Latin blood. “Mino Carta was fundamentally a permanently outraged person. Sometimes overly outraged. He had no middle ground with the Mino Letter. Italian blood was very often climbed.”

“He never omitted himself, never subjected himself, invented his own jobs from a certain moment, because he was an absolutely uncompromising person with his principles. One cannot think of writing the history of the Brazilian press without a very special chapter dedicated to the Mino Letter,” he added.

Rigid personality

The daughter of Mino Carta, Manuela Carta, stressed that the story of the father is confused with that of contemporary Brazilian journalism and recalled the rigid personality of the journalist at work.

“He was completely irreducible [em suas convicções]. I fought with him countless times. Dad, let’s spare this here, let’s handle that there. Wow, it was ugly shack, everyone thought that was not a writing, it was a Trattoria. A Neapolitan Trattoria. But in the end, we had fun, ”he says.

Manuela also said that his father could not see the country the way he had imagined.

“Deep down, I think the Mino didn’t see Brazil he imagined. I think what he thought would work didn’t work out he could have worked. He had problems with the elite, he had problems with Lula himself, eventually. Lula who is his friend, but he was a critic of many things from the Lula government itself.”
