President Donald Trump reported that his armed forces attacked a ship loaded with drugs in international waters of the Caribbean.
According to the president, the boat had sailed from Venezuela and transported “large quantities” of narcotics.
Marco Rubio, Secretary of State and on tour of Ecuador and Mexico, confirmed that the attack occurred in the south of the Caribbean Sea. He said it was a “lethal attack” against a ship linked to drug trafficking.
The details about the attack, including who operated the ship, are still scarce.
The incident occurred after the United States confirmed last month that the Navy would reinforce its presence near Venezuela, deploying several warships.
Later, Trump used its social media platform, Truth Social, to offer more details of the operation, which according to him took place on Tuesday morning.
“The attack occurred while the terrorists were in international waters transporting illegal narcotics to the United States,” he wrote. “The attack resulted in the death of 11 terrorists in combat. No member of the US forces was injured.”

The Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, described the “extravagant, unjustifiable, immoral, absolutely criminal and bloody ships.”
The Trump administration has accused Maduro’s government to collaborate with drug cartels to introduce drugs to the United States.
Maduro expressed Monday that he has set up against his country “a bodrium” and that “the maximum pressure was extravagant, quirky, immoral and brutal.”
He said that the US authorities “are wrong creating a very, but absurd narrative” about a fight against drug trafficking to justify the sending of warships, and insisted that the Caribbean country has a record in its fight against illegal narcotics trade.
He pointed out that the two communication channels that Venezuels has with the United States – one with the interim business manager of the so -called United States External Office for Venezuela, John Mcnamara, and another with Richard Grenelll, special envoy of President Donald Trump – are today “spoiled” and “maltrechos”.
