Stock markets of the world 'ring' the bell for gender equality

In the eighth edition of the initiative ‘Ring the bell for gender equality’, 121 markets and securities depositories participated globally, according to the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE).

The Stock Exchanges of Colombia, Lima and Santiago Commerce joined to analyze the way in which women are accessing the labor market and how gender equality in employment opportunities can be achieved.

According to Juan Pablo Córdoba, president of the bvc Group in Colombia, “2021 closed with an unemployment rate for women 80% higher than unemployment for men. The real challenge for businessmen, entrepreneurs and other agents of society is to achieve provide equal employment opportunities and participation in leadership positions.

This initiative, in which the Stock Exchanges worldwide ring the opening bells on International Women’s Day 2022, has the purpose of promote gender equality, highlight the benefits of a diverse and inclusive workplace and recognize the contribution of women in building a better future.

ABOUT COLOMBIA

The unemployment rate in December closed at 11% and women continue to be affected to a greater extent. Female unemployment was 14.9% while for men it was 8.3%
