The Council of Ministers approved the project of budget Public for fiscal year 2026, for a total of S/257,562 million, which represents an increase of 2.2% if compared to this year.
In accordance with the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), the proposal of the Financial Balance Law and indebtedness was also approved, which will consolidate the execution of works in educational infrastructure, health, transport and citizen security, as well as strengthen social programs.
“The budget of the regional governments is increased by 8.6%, and that of local governments, which includes the increase in Foncomun in the framework of Law No. 32387, grows by 3%. The continuity of investments in the three levels of government is guaranteed, as well as the salary increases already authorized by law,” said the MEF.
Budget distribution
The MEF said that more than 50% of the budget will be concentrated in the functions of education, health, transport, social forecast, public order and citizen security.
In Education S/19,658 million will be allocated for teaching remuneration and S/423 million to complete the Bicentennial Schools project. For the health sector, S/ 2,229 million will be provided that will finance the improvement of hospitals, and S/ 2,535 million for the continuity of the universal assurance.
In the case of transport, S/2,695 million stand out for the execution of lines 1 and 2 of the Lima and Callao Metro, and the beginning of lines 3 and 4, in addition to the Lima -ica railroad. In citizen security, S/5,140 million will be assigned for police interventions and s/1,009 million for investigation and criminal equipment.
