The National Penitentiary Institute (INPE) He informed that this Monday, September 1, the former president of the Council of Ministers, Betssy Chávezshe was transferred from the Annex Women’s Penitentiary Establishment to the María Auxiliadora Hospital.
According to the official statement, the measure was taken “by medical indication and as prevention.” The agency said that the transfer was made following the corresponding security protocols.
The INPE indicated that, in order to guarantee constant monitoring and rule out any possible complication in its health, the internal Chávez has counted since the beginning of its dry hunger strike with permanent supervision of the penitentiary doctor.
Chávez has been held since June 2023 after preventive detention against him for the alleged crime of rebellion, linked to the failed coup d’etat of former president Pedro Castillo.
In recent weeks, the former minister reported to be a victim of abuse and threats within the prison, which is why he initiated a hunger strike as a protest measure.
However, the INPE said that “there are no elements that corroborate or evidence the alleged threats or abuse by other internal ones to the Chinese Chinese prosecuted.”
