Mandatory mask will be treated today

In point 10 of the Agenda of the Chamber of Deputies, the bill “that repeals Law 6699/2020, which provides for the mandatory use of hygienic masks in the framework of the emergency due to the Covid-19 pandemic or Coronavirus”.

Despite the fact that the Accounts and Control Commission has not issued any opinion on Tuesday, the deputy Jorge Brítez (independent), will request that the plenary session be constituted as a Commission to request the opinion in favor.
Brítez, an independent national deputy and promoter of the initiative, affirmed that his colleagues asked him for an opinion in favor of at least one commission to support his initiative. However, in the absence of opinions, the legislator will propose to the plenary session to constitute a commission to obtain the opinion.

“I understand that the spirit of my colleagues is to approve this project. I already spoke with Basilio Núñez (Chartist ANR), Rocío Vallejos (PPQ) and Tito Ibarrola (Hagamos), and they told me that they want to get the project approved”, he advanced.

REASONS
Brítez explained that his repeal project seeks that the State no longer coercively or volitively demand the mandatory use of face masks for citizens.

“So that they stop being involved with a rag on their faces. We are battling in a line that seeks respect for constitutional guarantees and the freedom of people. We are also in favor of other types of therapies,” she commented. For the approval of the document, half plus one of those present is needed. According to information handled by Brítez himself, the Ministry of Health wants to maintain mandatory use.
“I think there is encouragement. The Executive repealed the decrees. If we are going to follow the same line, we also have to repeal this law. If any deputy objects, he will have to give his explanations tomorrow in the session”, he stated.

CONTEXT
The Executive Branch, through an official statement, has announced on February 22, 2022, to revoke the sanitary measures specified in Decree 6563/2022, but maintains the use of masks.

The bill informs that worldwide said use was discarded, due to the decrease in the wave of infections. The countries that abolished the mandatory use were; Spain, Sweden, Italy, France, Germany, United Kingdom, Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium and Portugal. While at the Regional level New York City is found, despite the high population in that area (8.4 million).

“This measure lacks rationality and justification since in daily life people practically do not use it due to the excessive heat, except for those who wish to do so. Said repeal does not imply that people who wish to use it for their personal safety continue to do so for as long as they consider appropriate, but what would be achieved with the repeal is to annul the obligation, not the optional use for all citizens who thus you want it”, reads part of the project.
