UFRJ proposes "Re-Amazonize Brazil" at the 2025 Knowledge Festival

The 2025 Knowledge Festival of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) will have a program of reflections that puts the Amazonian peoples in the center of the debate. With the theme “Re-amazonizing Brazil: Ancestral Knowledge and Technologies”, the event takes place on September 4th and 5th, at the Science and Culture Forum, Flamengo, South Zone of Rio de Janeiro.UFRJ proposes "Re-Amazonize Brazil" at the 2025 Knowledge Festival

According to UFRJ, Indigenous leaders, researchers, artists and activists will be present to discuss the challenges of the Amazon and global climate changebesides reflecting on possible futures for the planet.

“This year’s Knowledge Festival tunes with COP30 when discussing urgent climate-related issues. It is as if we had, here in Rio de Janeiro, a pre-conference of the climate, because we will have the opportunity to gather some of the leaders that will be in Belém,” says Ivana Bentes, dean of UFRJ Extension. “

“By gathering ancestral knowledge, science, art and public policies, we reaffirm the role of UFRJ as an articulator of solutions to the great challenges of our time,” adds the researcher.

The official opening takes place on the 4th, at 10am, with the presentation of The Manifesto Climate is Health, Health is Climate, which UFRJ is signatory.

“They will be present at the festival, Sinéia do Vale, representative of the indigenous peoples of Brazil at COP30, Eduardo Viveiros de Castro, professor of social anthropology at UFRJ, the largest name of the Indigenous Indigenous Debate. Also participate inra Nascimento, Sateré-Mawé Indigenous, Professor of Collective Health and Food Safety for Indigenous Peoples, Dzoodzo Baniwa, activist and reference in school education and reference Indigenous people of the Baniwa and Koripako and Ethel Maciel, Brazil health representative at COP30, ”says the UFRJ.
