Madrid, Spain.- Cuban Rayner Rodríguez Delgado was arrested this week in Miramar, Florida, for the Immigration and Customs Control Service (ICE), Although he voluntarily went to a scheduled appointment with the agency and that he was in the process of regularizing his immigration status in the United States.
Rodríguez Delgado was under the migratory supervision order known as I-220b since 2019, which requires migrants periodically reporting to ICE while their situation is resolved. In addition, he had obtained a Humanitarian parole which allowed him to initiate procedures to request permanent residence.
His family assures that he has fulfilled all conditions: he has no criminal record or infractions in the country, pays his taxes and has always submitted to appointments with the immigration authorities.
However, after his last appearance, he was transferred to the “Aligator Alcatraz” detention center, where he expects a possible deportation to Cuba, in the midst of an even ongoing appeal process.
In a video spread on social networks, His wife and mother of his little girl, María Carla Labrada, asked the authorities to reconsider the measure: “Rayner is not a criminal. He is a father, a husband … we just want to be together.”
The young woman reported that the arrest has left the family in a critical situation, especially her little daughter. For her part, Labrada’s sister also made a public call through Facebook: “He has no background, pays his taxes, is a father and loving husband, this is an injustice. They help to be together again. We are destroyed.”
What is I-220b status?
The I-220B form, known as Order of Release on collecting, is a document that signs migrants in the process of deportation When released under certain conditions within the US, while waiting for an audience or resolution of your case. Although it allows some freedom of movement, this status does not grant formal migratory benefits or necessarily stops a deportation order against it.
Since mid -2023, Cubans in this situation have reported to be arrested when attending their scheduled appointments with the immigration and customs control authorities. These arrests are part of a more strict policy towards those who entered irregularly and maintain pending processes under this category.
