The death of dozens of trout in the Yauli River, denounced by the peasant community of Pachachaca, motivated the intervention of the Environmental Evaluation and Control Agency (OEFA), which initiated a monitoring in different parts of the tributary to evaluate the quality of the water.

Specialists from the entity, together with representatives of the decentralized office of Junín and community members of the area, made preliminary measurements of environmental parameters in the riverbed. In addition, they inspected the facilities related to the Kingsmill tunnel to verify possible impacts of the mining activity in the area.

Supervision seeks to determine the causes of the death of fish and establish whether there are responsibilities linked to pollution of the water resource. The results will allow defining the scope of environmental damage and the corresponding administrative actions.
The OEFA said the final reports will be informed of the affected population, while the community awaits answers to a fact that puts its local economy and the Yauli district ecosystem at risk.
