Finance Minister Fernando Haddad praised this Thursday (21) to the stance of the Vice President of the Republic and Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, Geraldo Alckmin, in negotiations on the increase in export rates imposed by the United States government to Brazil.
By participating in the opening ceremony of the Tourism Hall in São Paulo, Haddad stated that Alckmin “has given a show of dignity in Brazil’s negotiations with the United States”.
“It is very important to have a person up with us representing us. It is very important to have a person who does not lower their heads to the scream and the challenge. A person who knows how to put himself, who can defend national interests, a person who knows the importance that Brazil has in the world. Because without respect we will not bring tourist here, we will not bring the attention of the world to the potential of Brazil,” said the minister.
Haddad also commented on the advances of tourism in the country and his relationship with the economic situation.
“When tourism goes well, it is a sign that we are searching for a slightly fairer country. When tourism goes well, we have a lot of reasons to celebrate. When you have money to make tourism it is because this family has already managed to honor much of its routine commitments, it has already paid the child’s school, already paid the water. So when tourism goes well, it is a signal that is being controlled. A sign that the worker’s income, especially the layers of up to four or five minimum wages, is thriving.

For the Minister of Finance, more important than the country continues to grow, is to continue growing with social justice.
“Growing 3% per year is very important. Now or more important as this is growing with a little more social justice. When you see that the worker has had an income increase in the last 3 years, that he has not had since the Real Plan, then you start to see some horizon, some hope of the future. This means that the Brazilian family will honor their commitments, but there will be a time for leisure,” he said.
In addition to Haddad, the official opening ceremony of the Tourism Salon was attended by Vice President Geraldo Alckmin; Minister of Tourism and President of the UN Turismo Executive Council, Celso Sabino, and the Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho.
Tourism Hall
With the theme diversity, inclusion and sustainability in tourism, the tourism hall is the largest showcase in the sector in the country. The event brings together representatives of the 27 federative units to promote culture, gastronomy, tourist destinations and regional experiences.
The meeting is an initiative of the Ministry of Tourism aimed at promoting, appreciation and marketing of scripts and national experiences, in line with the guidelines of the Tourism Regionalization Program (PRT) and the National Tourism Policy. The event aims to foster the economy of the branch, democratize access to travel and value the cultural and natural riches of the country.
In his speech, Geraldo Alckmin stressed the importance of health tourism and also for job creation.
“Tourism is health. Increasingly the immune system is valued. Human being is not a machine, he needs leisure and rest. And tourism also promotes health, approaches people and contact with nature in this fascinating country that is Brazil. Tourism is also the great employer, based on less capital, and distributes income,” he said.
According to the vice president, one of the best ways to stimulate tourism is to improve the income of the population.
“The best way for us to encourage tourism is to improve people’s income, people have a job and have better income, have a little money to travel, know and promote tourism,” he said.
According to Alckmin, being able to travel became the Brazilian as possible because of the two reforms planned by the current government: the tax and consumption.
“Justice is done with the tax issue and it is allowed people to have an additional appeal. And now inflation is falling. Inflation falls, improves people’s income, increases employment and diminishes income tax. This helps people to advance more,” he said.
Increased tourists
According to Tourism Minister Celso Sabino, in recent years Brazil has become one of the world’s leading tourist destinations, receiving many more foreign tourists than we received, for example, during the World Cup.
“According to Federal Police data, 2024 recorded more foreign tickets than when we hosted the World Cup or the Olympics. There were more than 6.75 million foreign tourists knowing and visiting each beautiful charm of our country. And these foreigners left an important financial increase for job creation, which was from the figure of more than $ 42 billion, according to Central Bank data,” he said.
Sabino pointed out that the Brazilian has also been visiting the country more in recent years.
“The year 2024 was the year the Brazilian wanted most and traveled the most within our country. Only by plane, we jumped from 97 million airlines to Brazilian cities in 2022 to 118 million passengers crossing the skies of Brazil in 2024. According to our survey of tourism trends summer 2024-2025, only 27% of Brazilians choose air modal.”
And the perspective, said Sabino, is still optimistic for this year.
“From January to July this year, Brazil has already registered, according to the Federal Police, the entry of 5.95 million foreigners. The perspective for the second half, which is historically better than the first, brings the projection of the Ministry of Tourism that this year Brazil, which never received 7 million foreign tourists in the year, reaching the mark of 10 million foreign tourists in 2025,” said the minister.
The Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa, also stressed that Brazil currently lives its best moment of tourism.
“The moment we are living is the best year in the history of tourism in Brazil. In 2024, we had a growth in national tourism by over 10%, and a growth of over 12% in international tourism.”
Silvio Costa pointed out that, due to this growth in tourism, the government has been investing in strengthening the country’s airports, especially in the regional.
“We are working hard to move at regional airports, because it is essential that we can stimulate the development of regional tourism. Today we have almost 30 regional airports in progress, among new and requalified, and we expect to do more than 50 airports in these near 4 or 5 years in the country,” he said.
