According to the Secretary of State, “the growing number of foreign drivers operating large trailer trucks on US roads is endangering American lives.”
Miami, United States. – The US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, announced on Thursday the immediate pause in the issuance of labor visas for commercial truck drivers. In X, Rubio wrote: “With an immediate effect, we are leaving any issuance of labor visas for commercial truck drivers.”
Then he added: “The growing number of foreign drivers operating large trailer trucks on the United States roads is endangering American lives and undermining the livelihoods of US truckers.”
Also this Thursday, the agency AP He reported that the Trump administration is reviewing more than 55 million people with current US visas to detect violations that may imply visa revocation and, if the headline is in the country, possible deportation.
The State Department pointed out to AP that all visa holders are subject to “continuous evaluation” (Continuous Vetting). “We review all the information available as part of our evaluation, including police or immigration records or any other information that arises after the issuance of the visa that indicates a possible inelegability,” said the agency.
According to the same report, inelegability indicators include excess stay, criminal activity, threats to public safety and terrorism ties (participation or support for designated organizations). The portfolio has hardened requirements for applicants-as compulsory face-to-face interviews-and extended the scope of their controls, previously focused mainly on students related to what the Government considers pro-palestin or antiisraeli activities, towards all visa holders.
The verifications cover social media accounts, police and migratory records in the countries of origin and possible violations of the law in the US also, the State Department applies new data collection tools, including a “complete exam” of social networks, supported by requirements introduced this year that require deactivating privacy switches on telephones and applications during the consular interview.
The State Department also stated: “As part of the Trump administration commitment to protect national security and public safety of the United States, since the day of the investiture the State Department has revoked more than double visas, including almost four times more visas of students, than in the same period last year.”
At the beginning of this week, the agency reported the revocation of more than 6,000 students’ visas for excess stay and violations of local, state and federal laws; Nearly 4,000 for legal infractions and between 200 and 300 for terrorism related, including support for terrorist organizations or state sponsors of terrorism.
The report adds that most foreigners wishing to enter the US requires visa, especially to study or work for prolonged periods. The visa exemption program (Visa Waiver Program) – which includes 40 countries, mainly European and Asian – allows for up to three months without visa for tourism or businesses.
China, India, Indonesia, Russia and most of Africa do not integrate that program, so its citizens must process visa to travel to the United States.
