THE Price of potatoes and onion showed a drop in the country’s leading supply centers (Ceasas) in July. This is what shows the 8th Bulletin of the Brazilian Program for Modernization of the Hortigranjeiro Market (Prohort), released on Thursday (21) by the National Supply Company (Conab).
In the case of potatoesthe fall occurs for the second month in a row in the main wholesale markets. THE Reduction reached 31.61% in the weighted average in the 11 wholesale markets analyzed by the National Supply Company (Conab).
According to Conab, the lowest prices are explained by the abundant supply of the product in the markets.
“The largest amount of onion on the market has also influenced lower prices. Quotations on July’s weighted average were 25.57% below the value practiced in June. If we compare with the same period of 2024, prices are almost 60% below those registered in the previous year,” the survey said.
Already the Tomato and carrot price variation was not uniform in the centrals analyzed.
“In the case of tomato, Ceasa in Paraná registered a drop of 16.68%, while in Santa Catarina there was a high of 4.68%. Still, Conab found a 5.68%drop in the weighted average price.”
In the case of lettucea Weighted average price increased by 9.93%, with the highest increase in Ceasa in Paraná.
“However, this high behavior was not unanimous. As leafy production tends to be close to consumer centers, each wholesale market reacts according to the intensity of supply, quality and demand,” the company said.

Fruits
THE Orange dropped 9.8% on the weighted average of the contests observed by Conab. The reduction is due to the lowest demand due to the period of school holidays, competition with the poon and colder climate.
“Similar scenario was checked for apple. The lower temperatures and the students’ recess also impacted apple marketing prices, which had a slight 1.92% reduction on the weighted average,” said Conab.
Watermelon had a drop in demand for the coldest climate, despite the increase in production in Goiás and Tocantins. There was a rise of 3.92% on the weighted average of the commercialization values of this product.
Banana and papaya were also discharged. In the case of the weighted average of Prices in centrals for banana, the discharge was 10.48%, due to the lower offer of the Nanico varietywhich, according to the newsletter, presented “reduction in the volume of shipping the product from the main producing regions, a common situation in winter”.
