With more than 70 votes in favor, the Full approved the draft legislative resolution of Congress 11306, which proposes to incorporate article 25-A to the Regulation of the Congress of the Republic, to optimize the exercise of the political rights of parliamentarians.
This modification of its regulations enable parliamentarians to carry out political and proselytizing activities during the week of representation. The measure is given to the 2026 general elections after being initially rejected, not reaching the necessary votes.
Now, after this decision, the congressmen have a free letter to exercise their “political rights” and that translates into the possibility of participating in partisan and proselytizing activities outside their legislative schedules.
However, criticisms arise for the week of representation, a period in which the parliamentarian does not stop working and receiving resources, however, he can also attend public events, party and political campaign activities, provided that they are carried out outside the facilities of the Congress.
On the other hand, the week of representation will remain in force despite the proposals so that it is suspended during electoral periods.
This regulation change occurs in the middle of the general elections in which a bicameral system will be changed, in which many current congressmen seek to be re -elected as deputies or senators. This normative change offers them greater facilities for your political future.
