Editrudis Beltrán will promote policies in favor of women

Santo Domingo – The candidate for the rectory of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), Editrudis Beltrán, announced Tuesday that he will promote policies that improve the gender perspective, during an activity to commemorate International Women’s Day. , held on the esplanade of the Pedro Mir Library of the Primate of America.

“We can start by reviewing the gender perspective in teaching. We must contribute to correct the distortions that perpetuate these schemes, ”said Beltrán to the applause of dozens of women and men who support his proposals.
In that sense, the experienced professor promised to implement the changes that this sense requires the UASD.

“I make public my commitment to support all national efforts to reduce the gap that generates unequal conditions for women, starting with the teachers and administrative servants of our Alma Mater, said Beltrán.

In this sense, he stressed that despite the fact that a good part of the classrooms are full of women and despite the fact that some studies confirm the consecration of women, training processes are not always taken into account in managerial positions.

In that order, he cited the most recent report on sectoral competitiveness published by the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development, which highlights that inequality persists.

“Similar results are observed in the Femininity Index of Poverty; In the last report published in 2019, it is confirmed that poverty affects women to a greater extent,” added Beltrán during a meeting where teachers were present. Rosalía Sosa, candidate for Vice Chancellor of Extension, Ramón Desangles, candidate for Administrative Vice Chancellor, Wilson Mejía , who seeks to become Teaching Vice-Rector and Radhames Silverio, candidate for Research and Postgraduate Vice-Rector, among other important figures in his project.

He pointed out that the Global Gender Gap Index for the year 2020 ensures that women reached parity in educational achievement, health and survival, but criticized that in terms of economic opportunities it is far from that recognition.

“There is a long way to go in terms of gender in the country. Scourges such as femicide, as well as the objectification of women, associated with the establishment of cultural industries based on their commercial exploitation, invite us to reflect on the role of higher education institutions in the face of these social distortions”. Said the former Administrative Vice Chancellor.

She argued that she has the support of Rosalía Sosa, a candidate for the Vice Chancellor of Extension, who grants her project the essential female perspective proposals to represent the voice of all Uasdian teachers, administrative servants and students.

Finally, he invited teachers in general, to promote the changes that Dominican society needs.

“I am convinced that we can do a lot from the classroom and convinced that our contribution can have an impact on the country’s social indicators. We can do a lot and I invite you to do it together from next June”, said Beltrán, who is emerging as the next rector of the UASD.
