The Plenary of the Chamber of Deputies approved on Tuesday (19) the urgency to analyze the project of Resolution 63/25 which provides for suspension for 6 months for those who physically assault or prevent, by physical action, the operation of legislative activities.

THE Project was presented by the board of directors of the House after federal deputies and opposition senators occupied, at the beginning of the month, the directors of the House and Senate to protest against the house arrest of former President Jair Bolsonaroobstructing the sessions and votes.
One of the project justifications is that “Physical clashes among parliamentarians are manifestly incompatible with the dignity of the mandate and the very grounds of the Democratic Rule of Law.”
“Such acts not only paralyze legislative activity, but also erode the image and authority of this house before society,” said the Board of Directors, in justifying the proposal.
Another argument is that there is no time to wait for the proceedings for breach of decorum, which need the participation of the parliamentary corregedoria and endorsement of the table.
Favorable to the proposal, the mayor, Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB), said that the initiative shows that acts such as opposition will not be allowed.
“It’s a demonstration that we should be energetic with this kind of attitude,” he said.
“As we are having unbalanced movements, we will only be able to control if we have on the table the condition of punishing and being pedagogical with those who do not comply with the bylaws,” he added.
