The Trafficking in people For forced labor purposes it is increasing and the response of criminal justice to punish being actions is being left behind, according to Alexander Colop who analyzed the issue in the National Migration Institute of the Dominican Republic.
He explained that in 2022 the number of victims of trafficking in persons identified under the modality of forced labor exceeded 6 % of victims of trafficking for sexual exploitation, in the Dominican Republic.
However, despite the increase in the crime of forced labor (42 % in 2022), the report highlights a poor response regarding the judicialization and Obtaining convictions compared to the crime of sexual exploitation. Indeed, in 2022 only 17 % obtained convictions for forced crime.

On the other hand, 72 % were sentenced for a crime of sexual exploitation, according to a global report on trafficking in 2024, prepared by the United Nations Office against Drug and Crime (UNODC), reflect alarming elements on this crime, which are highlighted as points of special interest in the aforementioned report:
Most cases of human trafficking are perpetrated by groups of the racketeering that operate with business or governance structures.
From a review of 942 judicial sentences, it was determined that 74 %of the 3,121 traffickers wrapped in these cases operate as interconnected groups and networks as businesses (56 %) or criminal organizations rooted in the territories (18 %) the country.
