Monzónic rains cause more than 340 deaths in Pakistan in 48 hours
Rescue teams try this Saturday to recover the bodies buried under the debris in northern Pakistan, where unusually intense monsoon rains caused the death of 344 people in 48 hours.
In the last two days, the most deadly torrential rains hit different districts of the mountainous province of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, border with Afghanistan, the most impacted by the storms and where 307 people died, half of the deaths recorded in this Monzón season, according to the local disaster management authority.
The majority of the victims were dragged by sudden floods or died when their homes collapsed, electrocuted or reached by rays.
In total, 657 people have died – among them a hundred children – and 888 were injured since at the end of June a season of monsoons of an “unusual” intensity began, according to the authorities.
OAS rejects “any action” to “hinder” general elections in Bolivia
The observation mission sent by the Organization of American States (OAS) to Bolivia for the general elections of this Sunday expressed its rejection of “any action” that seeks to “hinder” the development of the electoral process.
In a message disseminated in the social networks of the agency, the head of the OAS mission, the former Minister of the Interior of Colombia Juan Fernando Cristo, urged the Bolivians “to exercise their right to vote thus consolidating democracy.”
“We reject any action that seeks to hinder the normal development of the process, calling to act with responsibility for the present and future of Bolivia,” he said.
Peru rises to five years of residence in the country to request nationality
The new Nationality Law promulgated by the Peruvian Executive introduces some changes to strengthen security filters, among which is the 5 -year increase in residence in the country so that a foreigner can request his naturalization or nationality, as well as 4 years in case of marriage, according to the immigration authority on Saturday.
