The United States Department (USA) has reported that it is suspending all visit visas for Gaza individuals while driving a “complete and thorough” review. The measure was condemned by pro-passion groups.
The department said “a small number” of temporary medical and humanitarian visas has been issued in recent days, but has not provided numbers.
So far, by 2025, the US have issued more than 3,800 B1/B2 visit visas, which allow foreigners to seek medical treatment in the country, for people with the Palestinian Authority Travel Document, according to the analysis of the monthly figures provided in website of the department.
This number includes 640 visas issued in May.
The Palestinian Authority issues these travel documents to residents in the West Bank and in the Gaza Strip. THE website of the department did not include details for both territories.
The State Department’s measure, to suspend visit visas for Gaza people, occurs after Laura Loomer, far-right activist and ally of President Donald Trump, said on Friday (15), that “Palestinian refugees” had entered the US this month.
Loomer’s statement caused indignation among some Republicans, with deputy chip Roy saying that he would be informed about the matter and Deputy Randy Fine describing him as a “risk to national security.”
The American-Islamist Relations Council has condemned the measure, saying it is the latest sign of the Trump government’s “intentional cruelty”.
Gaza has been devastated by a war, triggered on October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian militant group Hamas launched an attack on Israel, killing 1,200 people and hostage, according to Israeli data.
Israel’s offensive against Hamas in Gaza has since killed more than 61,000 Palestinians, according to local health officials.
The US has not indicated that they will accept the Palestinians displaced by war. However, sources told Reuters that South Sudan and Israel are discussing a plan to reset the Palestinians.
