If a week ago only the four thermal units subjected to long -term repairs were out of the National Electrical System (SEN). Energy crisis on the island.
The last to break was Unit 3 of Renté, which had already been out only two days ago and that yesterday suffered an “emergency exit” that, together with a “demand superior to the forecast”, raised the maximum affectation until 1794 MW.
Next to her were also stopped today due to recent breakdowns units 5 and 6 of Nuevitas and the 8 of the Mariel. They are joined by the 2 of Felton, the 2 of Santa Cruz, the 4 of Cienfuegos and the 5 of the Renté thermoelectric plant itself, whose stops are already much more prolonged.
For others, 60 distributed generation centrals also did not produce electricity due to lack of fuel, which translates into 431 MW less, while another 275 MW are out of service due to thermal limitations, according to the report of the Electric Union (UNE).
The availability must rise, but …
In the midst of this complex energy scenario, the availability at 6:00 in the morning was below 2000 MW while the affectation was 1305 MW.
By noon this last figure must even rise to 1400 MW, according to the UNE. This, despite the contribution that the 25 new photovoltaic solar parks can give, which yesterday taxed 550 MW of maximum power in that time slot.
For the night, with the increase in the planned demand (3800 MW) the affectation will scale up to 1715 MW, even though the availability must increase to 2155 MW.
However, so that it occurs, 315 MW should be incorporated with SEN with the entry of several thermal units and distributed generation engines. If not, or, even, if another breakdown, the deficit would be greater than the estimate and, consequently, it would also be the blackouts.
