The reform to Labor Code and the modification of the Social Security Law are marked as priorities for congressmen in the second ordinary legislature of the 2025-2026 period, which began this Saturday, August 16. The code perimated in the last legislature.
Senator Rafael Barón Duluc (Cholitín), who presided over the commission responsible for studying the bill for the Labor reformhighlighted the progress of legislative work around this issue.

The legislator explained that about 80 % of the project has been agreed between the different sectors, although he acknowledged that there are still pending issues of agreement, such as that of The dismissal.
“There are some points, such as The dismissalthat there has not yet a consensus, but it is already an issue that we have already said, that it is not the time right now, as the intention is that the unemployment is maintained as it is currently. Duluc reiterated his confidence that the Labor Code It could be approved in less than a month, thanks to the advances achieved.
For its part, Senator María Mercedes Ortiz, representative of the Mirabal Sisters Province, also considered that The Labor Code It must be one of the main priorities of the National Congress.
“It is a great challenge and challenge that has The National Congress And, specifically, the Senate of the Republic, and that we have to provide the Dominican Republic with this important legislation, “he said.
Ortiz added that another fundamental issue is the Reform to the Social Security Systemwhich, like labor, responds to a social demand.
Consensus
He added that it is public knowledge that there is a Tripartite dialogue in which more than 90 % of the aspects contemplated in the project has already been agreed.

The senator for the province of Peravia, Julito Furcalalso highlighted the importance of approving labor reform and the Social Security Law, for being issues of interest for both business and workers. In addition, he mentioned other legislative priorities such as the Water Law, the law referendum and a project that seeks to declare blood as a public good in the Dominican Republic.
In that same sense, the president of the Senate, Ricardo de los Santos, reiterated his support for the approval of the Labor Code.
