The approved standard establishes that foreigners who wish to nationalize in Peru must reside at least five years in the country and demonstrate income that exceed S/ 4,400 per month.
It is worth mentioning that they will have to approve evaluations in Peruvian history, geography, art and culture, and not register police or judicial records. In the case of nationalization by marriage, the period of coexistence went from two to four years.
According to specialists, the changes seek to strengthen legal certainty and national security, ensuring that those who obtain nationality have a stable trajectory and sufficient economic means.
They also warn that these measures would not have a real impact on transnational criminal structures.
Criticisms focus on the economic requirement, considered excessive to the labor reality of many foreigners who legally reside in the country.
