More than 300 dead for torrential rains and sudden floods in northern Pakistan

At least 307 people died and 23 were injured in the last 48 hours by torrential rains, Floods, landslides and rays in the northern region of Pakistan, where the authorities still fight to reach the affected areas.

According to a report released by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the victims were mainly recorded in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the most punished for rainfall, With more than 180 dead and 23 injured, in addition to 31 missing.

In the affected areas, the PDMA, the Pakistani Army, the District Administration, the 1122 rescue service and local volunteers continue to deploy relief operations, the NDMA indicated in a statement.

During the same period, the NDMA said that 1,834 people were rescued and more than 700 tourists, along with 98 vehicles, were evacuated from the Ratti Gali area, in Kashmir administered by Pakistan.

Since the beginning of the Monzón season, on June 26, there has been a total of 507 dead -271 men, 159 children and 77 women- and 768 injured in incidents related to the rains, the authority explained.

In the last hours, more than 118 homes have been destroyed, 45 of them with serious damage and 73 partially, in addition to having lost 43 heads of cattle and six bridges.

Every year, monsoon rains cause the death of several hundred people in Pakistan. In 2022, unprecedented monsoon rains left more than 1,700 dead and caused economic losses exceeding 30,000 million dollars in the suurasian country. EFE
