The prosecutor of the nation, Delia Espinozahe granted an interview with Fernando del Rincón, of CNN, in which he addressed sensitive issues such as the recent amnesty law for military and police, investigations for deaths in protests against the Government of Dina Boluarte and the role of Congress against cases involving senior officials.
Regarding the recently promulgated amnesty law for military and police, Espinoza was bluntly described as unconstitutional and an insult to the victims.
“Here it is not about political issues, it is respect for fundamental rights, life, integrity. There were very sad cases between the 1980s and 2000s, during the war against terrorist criminality, but also excesses committed by approximately 900 military and police who violated human rights,” he said.
On the other hand, Espinoza questioned the actions of the Congress of the Republic, noting that the congressmen give speed to complaints without sustenance against Supreme Prosecutors, while investigating investigations against ministers and legislators.
“I do see that I am uncomfortable, now I see it, because of all the complaints that are presented, they only give speed to those filed without foundation, without sustenance, that they are against us the supreme prosecutors that we are currently in exercise,” he said.
In the interview, he also denied that there is an internal armor between supreme prosecutors. He explained that he investigates some of his colleagues and that his work is supervised by both the Attorney General’s Office and by Congress itself.
Regarding the investigations for deaths that occurred in the protests against the Government of Dina Boluarte, Espinoza said that he found delays when assuming the position, but that progress has been registered, including constitutional complaints against the president. However, he indicated that these were filed irregularly by Congress.
