“I’m very happy, because tourism generates jobs, income and, besides, it shows our beauties. I have no doubt that now we will have more tourists. And we have to treat well, so that they can come back. And I always say that now increases our responsibility, and we have to take good care. It is not just taking the title. in Barreirinhas and so on. “
The UNESCO entourage delivered to the Maranhão authorities, on Thursday (14), the certificate issued by the United Nations to Bumba Minha Boi. The Secretary of Culture, Yuri Arruda, spoke of the importance of celebrating this recognition.
“Receiving this UNESCO title is not just a symbolic act. This shows a worldwide recognition that the bumba my ox is resistance, it is faith, it is identity, it is belonging. So, this tradition is secular, with its rhythms, with its colors, translates living memory, the creative and diverse memory of the people of Maranhão.”
The Bumba Cultural Complex My Boi do Maranhão was recognized as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity in December 2019 by the Intergovernmental Committee for the safeguarding of UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The Maranhenses National Lençóis Park was recognized as a natural heritage of humanity in July last year, during the 46th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, which took place in Nova Delhi, India.
