The Minister of Energy and minesJoel Santos, reported that the country’s electricity service will experience significant improvement from Sunday, thanks to the reinstatement of the interconnected national electrical system (SENI) of generating plants that, together, will provide 525 megawatts to the installed capacity.
Santos explained that recent energy cuts have been caused, mainly by two factors: the extraordinary increase in demand, due to the high temperatures recorded in the national territory and the recent operation of operation of several generation plants for technical reasons.
Among the units that have been affected are Punta Catalina 2with a capacity of 360 megawatts, which is scheduled to reintegrate between the morning of this Saturday and Sunday. Likewise, the Mina V, with 120 megawatts, which joined the SENI at noon this Friday, while the SIBA plant temporarily reduced 45 megawatts for the process of closing its current cycle to move on to combined cycle, reintegrating that capacity during this Friday.

“Between today and Sunday we will recover a total of 525 megawatts, which will reduce interruptions and stabilize the supply of energy to the population, placing ourselves in a better position to combat the high temperatures that you affect, not only the country, but to the rest of the world,” said the minister.
In addition, Santos said that in the next six months the country will have a new generation that will reinforce the stability of the Seni. In October, the Energas 4 plants will enter service, with 130 megawatts and the expansion of Siba, with 68 additional megawatts.
He said that in the first quarter of 2026 the entry into operation of the 2000 Energy Plant is scheduled, which will contribute 414 megawatts, for a total of 612 megawatts of new installed capacity.
