President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva participates on Friday (15) in the inauguration of the new factory of Chinese automaker Great Wall Motors (GWM), in Iracemápolis, in the interior of São Paulo.
The Plant, acquired from Mercedes-Benz in 2021, already has about 400 workers hired and is prepared to produce up to 50,000 vehicles a year, focusing on hybrid and sustainable models. The automaker is forecast that the São Paulo factory generates, by the end of 2025, from 800 to a thousand jobs.
The scheduled initial production is 20,000 to 30 thousand vehicles per year and is expected to be expanded to 50,000 in three years. In the future, GWM intends to reach 100,000 cars made per year on site.
The investments already announced by GWM in Brazil are R $ 10 billion, about R $ 4 billion from 2022 to 2025 and R $ 6 billion from 2026 to 2032. At the Iracemápolis factory, the first model to be produced will be the HAVAL H6, which will feature hybrid versions.
According to the company, local production begins with imported pieces, but within the rules of the Federal Move program, which stimulates green mobility. According to GWM, at the beginning of production there will already be local content on the cars mounted on site, including components such as tires, glass, wheels, benches and electrical whips, as well as the painting process of vehicles to be done locally from the beginning. The company’s goal is to achieve 60% nationalization within three years.
